Senior Staff Data Engineer, Foundational Data

Airbnb operates a global platform connecting hosts and guests for unique stays and experiences. The Foundational Data team is responsible for building and maintaining the high-quality, reusable datasets that inform critical business decisions, ranging from site traffic analysis and bot detection to infrastructure cost attribution. As a Senior Staff Data Engineer, you will serve as the primary technical leader for this group, setting the long-term data architecture and strategy. This is a hands-on role where you will design and implement complex pipelines using Airflow, while also defining dimensional models and metrics. A significant portion of your work will involve pioneering the measurement of AI investments, including tracking the cost, performance, and utilization of model training and serving infrastructure. You will work across both data and analytics engineering disciplines, navigating requirements from finance, infrastructure, and product teams to create coherent, company-wide data standards. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels at architecting large-scale data systems from scratch, possesses strong technical leadership skills, and can drive consensus across diverse organizational stakeholders.
