As a Staff Engineer for the AI Gateway, you will focus on the backend services and APIs that manage Real-time Protection policies for the Netskope platform. This role involves architecting and scaling distributed systems that govern how global enterprises access web and cloud resources. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of these services, from initial design through to production deployment and maintenance. A core component of this position is working within an AI-augmented engineering environment, where you will leverage coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous standards for code quality, security, and abstraction. You will be expected to troubleshoot complex customer issues, participate in on-call rotations, and mentor other engineers to elevate the overall technical bar of the team. This position is well-suited for a seasoned backend engineer with extensive experience in Golang and distributed systems who is comfortable directing AI tools to produce lean, reliable, and scalable code in a high-stakes security context.

The Staff Software Engineer will architect, develop, and scale these services within an AI‑augmented engineering culture. Responsibilities Design, build, and scale concurrent, robust microservices and APIs in Golang. Use AI coding agents daily to generate reusable, secure code and reject technical debt. Maintain code quality through lean, purposeful implementations, code reviews, and mentorship. Ensure distributed system correctness: consistency, idempotency, caching, and failure handling. Troubleshoot customer issues, turning recurring problems into structural fixes. Collaborate across product, UI, dataplane, QA, and platform teams across time zones. Participate in on‑call rotation and monitor service health. Requirements 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years on backend services and distributed systems. Strong Golang expertise, including interface design, concurrency, performance profiling, and unit testing. Hands‑on experience with Gin and gRPC frameworks. Proven ability to work with AI/LLM coding agents and guide their output. Demonstrated clean‑code mindset and ability to evaluate and improve pull‑requests. Experience with microservice architecture and API design.
