8-30 years experienceAbout the Role We are looking for a Staff level Engineer to lead the design and development of a next‑generation Data Platform at Vercel. You will define the technical vision for our data ecosystem, work across the organization to align engineering strategy with product goals, and build scalable, reliable systems using modern technologies like Kafka, ClickHouse, Tinybird, and Snowflake. Responsibilities Design and implement a data platform supporting batch and real‑time integrations, advanced analytics, and multiple data types. Architect solutions with engineering, product, and senior leadership to ensure seamless data availability. Define and maintain guidelines for data ingestion, enrichment, storage, data modeling, ETL, and warehousing. Provide mentorship, set engineering standards, and drive continuous improvement. Partner with Security, Compliance, and Legal to ensure data protection standards. Drive architectural decisions, roadmap planning, and evaluate build‑vs‑buy trade‑offs. Collaborate with data scientists and ML teams to support advanced analytics and AI initiatives. Act as a decision‑maker for data architecture selection and establish strategic roadmaps. Requirements 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles, with at least 5 years at the Principal Engineer level. Proven track record designing and operating large‑scale data infrastructures at high scale. Experience with Kafka and its ecosystem (Kafka Streams, Confluent) and data warehousing technologies (ClickHouse, Tinybird, Snowflake).
