contractProgram Manager, Accounting Operations & Strategy
Anthropic · San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY
Anthropic is an AI research and safety company focused on developing reliable and steerable artificial intelligence systems. This contract role for a Program Manager within the Accounting organization serves as a central operational lead, acting as a bridge between leadership, finance systems, and the broader team. The position involves managing the accounting department's operational rhythm, including annual goal setting, leadership meeting cadences, and cross-hub communications. You will be responsible for maintaining org-wide planning calendars, tracking health metrics, and coordinating internal events such as all-hands meetings and offsites. Additionally, the role focuses on employee experience, requiring collaboration with the People team to manage training, development, and recognition programs across a distributed workforce. This position is well-suited for an experienced professional with a background in program management, strategy, or chief of staff functions. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects without formal authority, and possesses the ability to simplify processes while maintaining clear, direct communication with senior leadership.
About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic is seeking a Program Manager to join our Accounting organization and help it run as one global team. Accounting is scaling at an unprecedented pace across multiple hubs, and the goals, rhythms, programs, and people that make up the team need to stay connected as we grow. In this role, you will own that connective tissue: the annual goal-setting cycle, the leadership team’s operating cadence, org-wide events and internal communications, and the programs that make a distributed team feel like one. You will partner with Accounting leadership, the People team, Finance Systems, and hub leads. This is a hands-on role with a lot of range: part chief of staff, part program manager, part culture builder. Responsibilities Goals and operating rhythm Run the annual goal setting process and the reporting that tracks progress against those goals. Look at how the org actually operates (meetings, handoffs, planning cycles, decision making) and fix what isn't working. Maintain one org-wide planning calendar that shows close, audit, and team milestones alongside company-wide and team events, so leaders can see the pressure points and plan around them. Build and maintain a simple set of org health metrics (attrition, engagement scores, hiring pipeline, training completion, survey trends) and report on them regularly. Leadership and org-wide events Run our extended leadership team (XLT) program, including agendas, meetings, follow-ups, and action items. Own planning and agenda for the annual offsite and run the quarterly team all-hands. Write the internal updates: a regular team newsletter, plus talking points when leadership needs to explain a change to the whole org. People and culture Coordinate projects across the org that support employee experience programs. Partner with the People team to roll out training and development programs for Accounting. Review team survey results, identify the themes, and build action plans to address the feedback. Follow through and report back to the team. Run hub programs, including visit and rotation programs, local hub events, and meeting norms that work across time zones, so we feel like one global team. Run recognition and team rituals: wins, milestones, anniversaries, and peer recognition, especially across hubs. Team operations Support contractor management, including onboarding, tracking, and coordination with the right partners. Keep the team's knowledge base current: wiki, org charts, role descriptions, and key process docs. Keep the team calendar accurate so everyone knows what's coming. Preferred qualifications 7+ years in program management, operations, chief of staff, or strategy roles. Experience inside a finance or accounting org is a plus, but not required. A track record of running recurring programs end to end and getting people to follow through without formal authority. Good judgment about what matters and what doesn't. You can handle a lot of moving pieces without dropping them. Clear, direct writing. You can brief a senior leader in a few sentences. Comfort with confidential information and sensitive people topics. Experience supporting distributed or global teams. You're organized, but you also know when a process is getting in the way and should be simplified. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $230,000 — $300,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.
