Cloudflare operates a global network that provides security, performance and reliability services for websites and Internet applications, routing traffic through its intelligent edge to improve speed and mitigate threats. The Internal Fraud Platform team focuses on detecting and preventing fraudulent activity such as abusive signups, promo abuse, payment fraud and account takeover that impact Cloudflare’s revenue and support operations. As the founding software engineer on this team, you would design and build the services and pipelines that ingest fraud‑relevant events from internal systems like billing, signup and support, evaluate those events, and route decisions to the appropriate stakeholders. You would work closely with data scientists to turn models and heuristics into production‑ready components, create internal tooling for analysts to investigate and act on flagged cases, and ensure the platform is fault‑tolerant, scalable and reliable. The role offers end‑to‑end ownership of features in a nascent team, requiring strong backend engineering skills, experience with event‑driven architectures, and the ability to collaborate across functions to shape technical direction.

About the Role Cloudflare's Internal Fraud Platform team protects Cloudflare from fraud and abuse such as fraudulent signups, promo and trial abuse, payment fraud, chargebacks, and account takeover. The team is built around data science, developing signals and models to detect this activity. The role is the first software engineer on the team, responsible for building the platform that ingests events from internal systems, evaluates and routes them, and provides decisions and case data to analysts. The engineer will instrument systems that generate fraud signals, build pipelines and services, and create tools for analysts, partnering closely with data scientists to move models from notebook to production. Responsibilities Build the Platform: design, build, and operate services and pipelines that ingest fraud‑relevant events from internal systems (billing, signup, support, etc.), evaluate them, and route decisions and case data. Deliver Signals for Scoring: work with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to expose event data and features needed by models, and integrate model decisions back into pipelines and tools. Build Investigation Tooling: create internal tools and workflows for Trust & Safety, Support, and Finance analysts to investigate flagged accounts and events. Own Projects End to End: drive initiatives from problem definition through design, implementation, rollout, and operation with minimal oversight. Ensure Accuracy and Reliability: build fault‑tolerant systems that handle retries, failures, and high event volumes, and maintain operational health. Shape Technical Direction: influence architecture, tooling, and engineering practices as a founding member.
