Cloudflare is a global internet infrastructure provider that secures and accelerates web traffic for a wide range of customers, from personal blogs to Fortune 500 enterprises. The Network On‑ramps team builds the services that expose Cloudflare’s edge network to customer networks, handling BGP peering, WAN optimization, and visibility tools. As a senior software engineer on this team you will design, implement, and operate large‑scale networking components such as an anycast BGP layer, a Linux‑kernel‑based dataplane that processes high‑volume traffic, and control‑plane APIs that let customers express complex configurations. Daily work will involve writing systems‑level code in Go and Rust, extending kernel networking primitives like eBPF, netfilter and network namespaces, and integrating RESTful services with distributed data pipelines for logging and analytics. The role suits engineers with deep knowledge of L3/L4 protocols, experience building reliable distributed systems, strong debugging and performance‑tuning skills, and a habit of shipping production‑ready code at scale.

Location: Austin, Champaign About The Team: Cloudflare is redefining the way networks are run at scale. Our Network Services product suite puts the connectivity, scale, and performance of Cloudflare’s global network in front of customers’ network infrastructure and private networks, providing a single pane of glass for network connectivity, visibility, and operating network functions like BGP, WAN optimization, and more. We are a team of engineers and product managers who obsess over quickly building products that solve real customer problems using innovative technologies and techniques which leverage Cloudflare’s unique architecture and global network footprint. About the role We are hiring engineers of all experience levels on our teams. Some of the things our teams work on include: An anycast BGP implementation that sustains sessions that are moved across servers and regions Flow and log collection, correlation, and analytics systems to provide customers with unparalleled visibility into their own networks A Linux kernel-based networking dataplane which ingests and forwards traffic from some of the largest networks in the world Control plane systems which allow customers to simply express complex network configurations As a Software Engineer on our team, you will work across a wide range of technologies and systems to deliver new features, improve performance, and increase the scalability of our Network Services products. You’ll build, deploy, and operate our team’s systems on top of one of the largest edge networks in the world. You’ll partner with some of the best engineers and product managers to solve big problems that have a meaningful impact in the lives of our customers and users. We’re looking for curious, empathetic engineers who are excited to join us in changing the way networking is done! Examples of desirable skills, knowledge, and experience Experience building and shipping large-scale, reliable, highly distributed systems Systems-level programming experience, especially in Go and Rust Expertise in L3 and L4 networking protocols Experience building on top of Linux kernel networking primitives – netfilter, nftables, eBPF, tc, network namespaces, etc Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and backend systems Experience with large-scale distributed data pipelines, from data structuring to efficient querying to data analysis Excellent debugging and optimization skills Attention to detail and ability to solve complex customer problems Own solutions end-to-end and driving the design, development, and deployment process Able to work across teams and level common, sustainable solutions Creative, open-minded, collaborative problem solver Focus on clarity in written and verbal communication What Makes Cloudflare Special?
