6-6 years experienceAbout the Role Roblox’s database team builds a next‑generation, multi‑tenant database platform that scales globally. As a senior engineer you will shape architecture, build and launch critical database capabilities. Responsibilities Design and implement engine features such as indexing, storage formats, WAL, replication, sharding, and query‑planner enhancements. Evolve the control plane for elastic scaling, autonomous healing, and zero‑downtime schema or tenant moves. Profile and optimize code paths using kernel‑level tracing and performance tooling. Lead design reviews, performance benchmarks, failure drills, and post‑incident retrospectives. Develop automation frameworks for testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability, and autoscaling. Mentor engineers and engage with the open‑source community on PostgreSQL, RocksDB, etc. Requirements 6+ years of software engineering experience. Deep experience with large‑scale distributed databases or storage engines (PostgreSQL, MySQL/InnoDB, RocksDB, Spanner, Aurora, AlloyDB). Strong skills in C/C++, Go or Rust and knowledge of database internals (B‑trees, MVCC, WAL, query optimization, buffer management). Hands‑on experience with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos) and multi‑region replication. Experience shipping high‑QPS, low‑latency services on Kubernetes or Nomad with observability. Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into technical roadmaps. Bonus experience with open‑source contributions to PostgreSQL or RocksDB. Eligibility Location: San Mateo, CA (headquarters).
