Job Summary: The Caterpillar Large Electric Power Solutions Division (LEPS) is seeking a Configuration Engineer to join their group located in Lafayette, In. As a Configuration Engineer, you will share the responsibility of creating, updating, and maintaining all LEPS pricelists. The position will provide an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to learn and develop a strong background of a broad product line, which includes 3500, C175, and 3600 Electric Power products in all regions of the world. You will work closely with our partners in the Large Power Systems Division as well as other organizations within Electric Power. What you will do: Working closely with design engineers responsible for new products, product improvements, and cost reduction activities. Managing component compatibility. Initiating, prioritizing, and managing the creating of new pricelists. Initiating, prioritizing, and managing changes to existing pricelists. What you will have: Information Capture: Knowledge of the methods, channels and processes to obtain needed information; ability to identify, capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, understandable and easily retrievable manner. Level Working Knowledge: • Follows defined procedures to document all routine information. • Identifies relevant established standards, policies and practices. • Fulfills routine information capture needs in own area. • Uses automated tools to capture, organize and archive relevant information. • Cites examples of different types of relevant information that need to be captured. Standard Operating Procedures: Knowledge of established standard operating procedures (SOP); ability to design, implement and evaluate standard operating procedures affecting daily and strategic business operations in order to increase operational efficiency. Level Working Knowledge: • Adjusts SOPs according to changes in organizational and industry procedures. • Tracks deviations from and modifications to existing SOPs in business operations. • Ensures compliance with industry standards, regulations and policies. • Assists in establishing a standard operating procedure based on workflow and environment review. • Reviews the efficiency of standard operating procedures in terms of performance improvement. Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Level Working Knowledge: • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions. • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns. • Identifies the major forces, events and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand. • Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions. Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Working Knowledge: • Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. • Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. • Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. • Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.
