As a Senior Data Engineer on Discord’s Data team, you would own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of data models and pipelines for a specific functional area, designing and implementing reliable datasets that feed analytics, machine learning, experimentation, and reporting tools. Daily work includes building scalable data architectures, partnering with data science, ML, and engineering partners to improve data coverage and accuracy, creating data quality audits with alerting and anomaly detection, and optimizing pipeline performance and cost. You would also drive adoption through documentation and knowledge sharing. The role suits candidates with four or more years of experience building production data pipelines at scale, strong SQL and Python skills, solid data modeling abilities, and a track record of delivering complex projects end to end. Familiarity with tools such as BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, Looker, or Tableau, as well as experience mentoring peers or setting data engineering standards, is advantageous.

This position is US based only. Discord is looking for Senior Data Engineers to join our world class Data team. Data Engineers at Discord work with data science, machine learning, and engineering teams to build the foundational datasets behind our tools, analyses, and models. The data you build directly shapes how we find opportunities, measure success, and make product and business decisions. We are hiring for multiple verticals including Gaming Intelligence and GRC. What you will be doing : Own the data models and pipelines for a functional area end to end, from design through implementation and adoption Build and maintain foundational datasets that power analytics, modeling, experimentation, and the dashboards and reports teams rely on Design data architectures for massive, complex data, balancing usability, performance, and cost Partner with data science, ML, and engineering teams to improve the coverage, accuracy, and reliability of instrumentation Build data quality audits at scale, with alerting and anomaly detection where needed Find and act on opportunities to improve pipeline and dashboard performance and cost Drive adoption of your work through documentation and enablement, and share what you learn with teammates What you should have 4+ years of experience building and operating production data pipelines with high volumes of consumer data Strong data modeling skills across structured and unstructured sources Proficiency in SQL and Python, with a focus on correct, performant, maintainable code Experience implementing and monitoring data quality checks on very large datasets (e.g. billions of rows) A track record of owning complex projects end to end: breaking them into phases and balancing speed, usability, and risk Clear communication and stakeholder management skills, and comfort working on problems that are ambiguous and change quickly A collaborative approach and natural curiosity Bonus Points: Passion for Discord or online communities Experience with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt, or similar tools Experience with Looker, Tableau, or similar dashboarding tools Experience designing data architecture for experimentation, creating frameworks that scale instead of one-off solutions Experience mentoring other engineers or setting data engineering standards for a team The US base salary range for this full-time position is $220,500 to $245,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
