Senior Finance Manager, Product & Engineering

The Senior Finance Manager for Product & Engineering will act as a strategic financial partner to the Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) organizations. In this role, you will manage operational expenditure and headcount planning, ensuring that technical investments align with the company's long-term financial strategy. Daily responsibilities include building bottoms-up workforce models, forecasting cloud infrastructure and AI compute costs, and evaluating the financial impact of build-versus-buy decisions. You will lead monthly budget-versus-actuals reviews, translating complex technical roadmaps into actionable financial insights for leadership. This position is well-suited for a finance professional with over eight years of experience in strategic finance or FP&A within the technology sector. The ideal candidate possesses deep fluency in SaaS cost drivers, cloud economics, and complex headcount modeling. You must be comfortable working cross-functionally with technical leadership to provide rigorous analytical judgment, simplify complex financial data for executive stakeholders, and operate effectively within a fast-paced, evolving environment.

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Finance Manager to serve as a key partner to Mixpanel’s Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) organizations. This person will own infrastructure cost, EPD opex, and headcount planning while building scalable systems to improve visibility and decision-making, as well as the analytical frameworks that guide how Mixpanel deploys capital and allocates resources across these areas. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Engineering and Product leadership, People, and Finance to ensure investments are intentional, efficient, and aligned with long-term company strategy. Responsibilities Own the Product investment envelope – Manage OpEx and headcount budgets across EPD. Ensure investments align with company strategy while maintaining efficient spend and margin targets. Drive rigorous workforce planning across technical and corporate teams – Build bottoms-up headcount models by function and level. Partner with Engineering leaders to sequence hiring against roadmap needs, compliance requirements, and operational scale. Model infrastructure and internal systems economics – Develop clear forecasting models for cloud hosting, AI/compute, internal tooling, SaaS applications, and enterprise systems. Identify optimization opportunities across both product infrastructure and corporate tech stack. Translate roadmap and corporate priorities into financial tradeoffs – Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, capitalizable vs. expensed R&D, and vendor investments across EPD. Provide clear recommendations grounded in ROI and long-term cost structure impact. Elevate budget vs. actuals rigor across the organization – Lead monthly BvA reviews for EPD. Automate reporting, improve accrual accuracy, and surface actionable insights—not just variance explanations. We're Looking For Someone Who Has 8+ years of experience in FP&A or strategic finance at a high-growth technology company. Proven to be a partner to Engineering leaders – You’ve supported technical teams and corporate functions, understanding how product velocity and operational infrastructure translate into financial outcomes. Fluency in infrastructure and SaaS cost drivers – You understand cloud economics, AI/compute scaling, enterprise tooling, and how architecture and vendor decisions impact margins. Strong workforce planning – You’ve managed complex headcount models across multiple departments, aligning hiring pace with financial guardrails. Advanced financial modeling – You build scenario-driven models with clear assumptions and sensitivity analysis that stand up to executive scrutiny. Strong analytical judgment and the ability to identify the few variables that matter most within large and complex datasets. Ability to operate independently through ambiguity and bring structure to problems that do not have an established playbook. Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex financial and technical topics and develop polished, executive ready deliverables. A high say/do ratio, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities, assumptions, and technology can change quickly. Bonus Points For Hands-on experience with Pigment. #LI-Hybrid Compensation The amount listed below is the total target cash compensation (TTCC) and includes base compensation and variable compensation in the form of either a company bonus or commissions. Variable compensation type is determined by your role and level. In addition to the cash compensation provided, this position is also eligible for equity consideration and other benefits including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level and are benchmarked to the SF Bay Area Technology data cut released by Radford, a global compensation database. The range displayed represents the minimum and maximum TTCC for new hire salaries for the position across all of our US locations. To stay on top of market conditions, we refresh our salary ranges twice a year so these ranges may change in the future. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and other factors.
