Airbnb operates an online marketplace that connects hosts offering short-term stays and experiences with travelers around the world. The iOS Platform team builds the foundational libraries, tooling and CI systems that enable product engineers to ship the Airbnb iOS app, which is written almost entirely in Swift and adopts the latest Apple technologies such as SwiftUI, Swift Macros and structured concurrency. In this senior role you will work with teammates and cross-functional partners to spot inefficiencies in the AI-agent-driven software development workflow, drive roadmap projects that improve tooling reliability and speed, and evolve core frameworks and build systems to support high-velocity feature delivery. Day-to-day activities include collaborating on design discussions, implementing improvements to Go-based developer tooling, refining Ruby scripts, applying agentic AI techniques to reduce execution time and token usage, and maintaining Swift-based libraries that power the app. The position suits engineers with five to nine years of software development experience, a track record of building reliable tooling in Go and Ruby, hands-on iOS development in Swift, familiarity with large codebases, and optionally experience with Bazel or quarterly office gatherings in San Francisco.

The Community You Will Join: The iOS Platform team’s mission is to provide best-in-class experience for iOS development at Airbnb to empower engineers to deliver innovative solutions with high velocity and quality at scale. We’re ambitious in our vision, and our work spans a large surface area, from frameworks and tooling to build systems, CI, Testing, and AI automations. We maintain and evolve the core libraries & frameworks that underlie most of the Airbnb iOS app and enable product engineers to build great features. Our application is nearly 100% written in Swift and we adopt the latest Apple technologies including SwiftUI, Swift Macros, Swift Testing, and structured concurrency. The Difference You Will Make: In this role, you’ll be responsible for driving projects that improve AI agents’ effectiveness across the software development workflow by providing the right tools to get work done efficiently and reliably, with high-quality results. A Typical Day: Collaborate with team members & cross functional partners to identify opportunities for improving our developers’ productivity. Drive roadmap projects and deliver high-quality results to further our mission. Improve our existing frameworks & toolings to deliver on our ambitious vision. Your Expertise: 5-9+ years of industry experience in software development. Experience building reliable developer tooling in Go. Experience working with Ruby and maintaining or improving existing tooling. Experience leveraging Agentic AI to improve software development workflows and drive large scale migrations. Experience identifying and addressing inefficiencies in AI agent workflows to improve execution time, token efficiency, reliability, and quality. Experience working in medium- to large-scale codebases. iOS development experience in Swift, including building applications, libraries, and frameworks. [Nice to have] Experience designing and developing build systems (e.g. Bazel). Ability to travel to the San Francisco office for about a week each quarter for gatherings.
