As a Backend Engineer on the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the critical systems that govern user authentication and authorization. Your day-to-day work involves designing and shipping scalable backend services that support millions of users, requiring close collaboration with product management, security, and client engineering teams. You will be expected to scope and execute high-leverage projects aimed at improving the performance and architecture of Reddit’s identity infrastructure. This role is well-suited for engineers with at least three years of experience in distributed systems and a background in IAM-related domains. Proficiency in general-purpose programming languages, particularly Go, is essential, as is experience working with cloud infrastructure like Kubernetes, AWS, or GCP. The position requires a candidate who balances technical expertise with strong communication skills to effectively navigate cross-functional projects and contribute to the evolution of the platform's security and access roadmap.

The Identity and Access Management team develops and maintains a set of mission critical, highly performant, and highly scalable systems that manage user identity, authentication, and authorization for all of our millions of daily users and backend services. Some of our present and future challenges include: Building systems around consumer IAM to meet the needs of Reddit’s engineering organization and millions of daily users. Design, build and ship backend services powering experiences for one of the most visited sites in the world. Work with product management, security, client engineering, and backend teams to define and implement Reddit’s IAM vision and roadmap. In your day-to-day, you will: Steer: Work with the team to select, scope, and execute on high leverage projects that align with Reddit’s goals. Build: Execute on a strategy and create a more performant, more scalable, higher quality architecture around IAM. XFN Collaboration: Work together with a variety of cross functional teams across Reddit Engineering. Evolve: Learn and improve your own technical and non-technical abilities. Who you might be: 3+ years of experience designing and developing distributed backend systems IAM backend experience in either authorization or authentication domain Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages (preferably Go). Capability with essential cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS, GCP). High empathy and excellent communication skills to collaborate across the organization. In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below. The base salary range for this position is: $164,200 — $229,900 USD In select roles and locations, the interviews will be recorded, transcribed and summarized by artificial intelligence (AI).
