Reddit operates a social news aggregation and discussion platform that hosts over 100,000 active communities where users share, vote, and comment on topics ranging from hobbies to news. The Data Movement team within Reddit’s Data Platform builds and maintains the systems that ingest the billions of daily events generated by those communities into storage and make them available for batch and streaming analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence workloads. As a Software Engineer on the Ingestion Platform, you would design, develop, and operate scalable, fault‑tolerant pipelines using technologies such as Spark, Flink, and Airflow, while also improving self‑serve tools that let data owners declaratively manage their workloads. Day‑to‑day tasks include writing and testing production code in languages like Python, Scala, Go, or Java, collaborating with partner teams to refine infrastructure, participating in on‑call rotations to monitor reliability and latency, and contributing to open‑source components when needed. The role suits engineers with at least two years of production software experience, strong object‑oriented programming skills, hands‑on exposure to cloud services, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and data‑processing frameworks, and who enjoy solving large‑scale data challenges in a collaborative, service‑oriented environment.
