full-timeSenior Manager - Compliance Governance
Mercury · San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within United States
Mercury is a fintech company that provides banking and financial services tailored for startups and business owners, partnering with FDIC‑insured banks to deliver its products. The Senior Manager, Compliance Governance will lead the team responsible for Mercury’s Compliance Management System, overseeing the design and execution of compliance risk assessments, enterprise policy governance, compliance training programs, and compliance reporting. Day‑to‑day activities include setting team priorities, mentoring compliance professionals, coordinating with Enterprise Risk, Legal, Internal Audit, and executive leadership, and ensuring the company is ready for regulatory examinations and audits. The role also involves using technology and automation to make governance processes scalable and measurable, and providing credible challenge to the business when needed. Ideal candidates have eight or more years of compliance or risk management experience in a fintech, bank, or regulated financial institution, with at least three years of people‑management experience, hands‑on ownership of core CMS components such as risk assessment, policy governance, training, or issues management, and a track record of supporting regulatory exams. They should possess broad knowledge of consumer‑protection and BSA/AML regulations, the ability to present compliance programs to senior stakeholders, pragmatic judgment about tailoring frameworks, familiarity with 1LOD/2LOD concepts, and a willingness to leverage AI tools to improve efficiency.

We work hard to create the easiest and safest banking* experience possible to simplify entrepreneurs’ and business owners’ financial lives. At Mercury, compliance is a strategic function.
