Mercury · San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States
Mercury is a fintech firm that creates fast, intuitive financial and banking products aimed at founders and entrepreneurs, increasingly embedding AI to help businesses manage money. The Tech Communications Lead will shape and own the narrative around Mercury’s technology, AI initiatives and innovation, turning complex engineering work into clear stories for founders, the broader tech community, investors and media. The role involves partnering with the co‑founder and senior product and AI leaders to develop thought‑leadership platforms, crafting messaging, talking points and social content, and running an integrated communications program that includes podcasts, events, owned content, press and social media. The lead will secure high‑impact media opportunities, manage product and AI launch communications, cultivate relationships with tech and AI journalists and podcasters, and use AI tools to scale output while measuring impact. The position suits a senior communicator with seven to ten years of experience in tech or AI storytelling at high‑growth startups, strong writing and editing skills, a proven record of building executive thought‑leadership, and the ability to translate technical concepts into engaging narratives.
Mercury is building the financial and banking* products founders actually want: one that’s fast, intuitive, and crafted to help them do more with their money. As AI changes how companies are built and run, we’re rethinking what Mercury can do for the people running them. We’re looking for a Tech Communications Lead to tell that story and to make Mercury the company founders, builders, and the broader tech world think of when it comes to AI and innovation in finance and banking. This includes: Shaping and owning Mercury’s technology and innovation narrative, including how we’re building AI that helps founders and entrepreneurs run better Partner with our co-founder and senior product and AI leaders to bring that story to market through integrated comms: podcasts, events, content, social, press, and more In this role, you will report to our Head of Comms and own how the world understands Mercury’s approach to technology and AI. You’ll turn what our product and AI teams are building into stories that resonate with customers, prospects, future teammates, and investors, and you’ll put our leaders in the rooms and conversations that matter. You’ll join a creative, scrappy, and highly collaborative comms team where ideas move fast and you’ll have real ownership from day one. If you love sitting at the intersection of product, storytelling, and the startup ecosystem, and want to build something rather than maintain it, this role is for you. *Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank.
